I want to tell you a little story about how the Universe had some big plans for me.

It all started with putting me on America Street when I moved back to the USA in 2015.

Depending on what direction I turned when I left my front door, I either hit the “hood” or faced million dollar homes. Little did I know at the time, that I was being called upon for my purpose.

Having just lost my mother under tragic circumstances, I was at my rawest and most vulnerable state. And in this fragile state of being, I met a man with a cause that would help show me the light. His cause was one to help the homeless and without even thinking about it, I jumped right in and faced a world I had never really truly seen. I mean why would I have? I was living the life in my ivory castle.

Little did I know at the time, that I was being called upon for my purpose.

But there I was speaking to humans with nothing (well, I mean nothing financially) and as I started talking to them, I felt their pain, hurt, hopleslessness in a way I could never have imagined. WHY? Because I was right there with them. I was them, they were me, we were we. There was no separation. Truth is there never was. The only separation that was ever there was the one I had placed in my head and built around my heart. We were humans connecting on a heart based level. Energies inter-connecting and flowing without judgment, without anything risking our union as brother and sister. Raw. Open. Honest. Our compassion our language and nothing else. That’s when I felt my existence transcend form my head into my heart and that is when things shifted in imperceivable ways. I was finally starting to feel whole. To feel as though what I felt for my fellow human was the only currency I ever really needed to know.

I had become truly alive at that moment.

When you start diving into the depths of your own wounds and begin healing though them finding your own self-love, self-worth and divinity, something interesting begins to happen. You start wanting to spread that love around. To everybody.

The more you love yourself, the more you can love others! SO SELF CARE AND LOVE IS FOR YOU BUT FOR SOCIETY AS WELL!

How can we partner with each other and have each other’s backs if we don’t even know and accept ourselves?!

And actually what recent science is proving is that we are a collaborative and cooperative species, and that we do better in a state of harmony than in competition. It’s not survival of the fittest, it’s how can we co-create for each other and for the greater good.

And don’t we need more of that right now? Connecting with each other more? Look at the state that we are in….it’s shocking.

That’s why I am a proud supporter of the Lowcountry Herald and the work that they are doing…

The Lowcountry Herald Magazine is a "street paper," which means it is an independent publication that operates on a social enterprise and self-help model to provide an innovative solution to urban homelessness and unemployment.

Street paper vendors purchase copies of their local street paper at a portion of the cover price and become micro entrepreneurs, selling their product on the streets, to earn their own living and support themselves and their families. This has the advantage of giving them a way to make cash that doesn't depend on their mental state, background, education, criminal record, employment history, housing status, or any of the other factors that keep the homeless from working.

There is no cause half so sacred as the cause of the people. There is no idea so uplifting as the idea of the service of humanity.
