“Intention is everything”, our Reiki teacher reminded us today. And she’s right.

Let’s look at what intention means according to our friends at Merriam-Webster:

1 : a determination to act in a certain way : resolve

2 : import, significance

3 a : what one intends to do or bring about

b : the object for which a prayer, mass, or pious act is offered

4 : a process or manner of healing of incised wounds

5 : concept; especially : a concept considered as the product of attention directed to an object of knowledge

6 intentions plural : purpose with respect to marriage

Whatever definition you focus on, the word deliberate comes to mind. It’s seemingly impossible to have intention without creating deliberate thought into what you want to do.

Intention requires us to stop, think, and plan (deliberately create). So, in essence, the act of intention lies at the very heart of creating the best possible lives for ourselves.

Intention is responding instead of reacting. It is being mindful instead of being mindless. Intention opens us up to new choices in thought, action and in being. Intention is at the heart of all creation.

When my Reiki teacher reminded us that intention is everything, she was referring to its power in accessing UNIVERSAL LIFE ENERGY. She said that just by holding the belief that we can harness ‘life energy’ is all we need to start. It doesn't matter whether we feel the heat in our hands, whether we feel our bodies responding, whether we feel our chakra space being activated, just the BELIEF that we are, is enough to make it happen.

Think about that. Just thought alone has the power to set everything in motion. Remember the last time you turned over one of those incredibly expensive watches? You saw all of the intricacies that it takes to move the hour hand and the minute hand just so we can tell time. Meaning that all of the incredible “stuff” that happens in our life is created by the invisible part of our experience that we can't see. The back of the watch is the 98% of us that is energy and it’s where all of the magic happens. And that 98% of us is completely influenced by our thoughts and feelings because after all they are energy too. JUST THOUGHT ALONE has the power to make things run. It is the back of the watch that makes us tick. The front of the watch is like the 2% of us that is matter. It’s just a front to the incredible inner workings of what we can't see. Now what we do with this power is up to us, and if you're like me, you may not always be using it to your best potential so your watch may not always keep the best time. But at any moment, we can get that power back when we intentionally choose a new feeling or a new thought.

It is with intention alone that we can start the ball rolling on anything. Intention carries with it all of the vibration and energy we need to make ANYTHING happen. And THIS belief is at the core of manifestation. The giant wheels of creation can start moving with just a thought. Thought is enough to start movement. It is enough to get the wheel moving even if only slowly in the beginning. The mind can put anything in motion it wants to. Intention can change our health, our relationships, our career and the trajectory of our lives.

Intention can turn a pawn into an active participant. It can change self-perception, transform relationships, generate healing, & create new paths of possibility. It can turn the most trying relationships into easier ones when the intention is LOVE. It can heal hurts when the intention is forgiveness . It can transform frustration when the intention is patience. It can eradicate hate and judgment when the intention is acceptance. And the list goes on and on. Anything and everything can be transformed with "the determination to act a certain way."

Unknowingly, it’s during the the most desperate points in our lives, the ones filled with despair and tears that we have a choice. And I say unknowingly, because when we are in those horrible moments, the choice of intention doesn't seem real. It doesn’t even seem like a viable option. Not when we are snowballing old patterns of fear and fighting the war of negative thoughts. Yet, it’s at these moments that intention could be the way out. Our life line. If we would only stop and consider, that intentional calvary that could save us. That moment where we pause and contemplate choice is everything.

When I reflect on what has been hardest in my life, it has been some of my past personal relationships and my health. These two dynamics, however, radically shifted when I set the intention to change and acknowledge the part I played in each. Becoming intentional requires a radical shift into self-awareness. It requires us to break down any wall of pride that we may have built. And perhaps most importantly, it requires a leap of faith into assuming the role that we are THAT powerful. And we are.

INTENTION: 1 : a determination to act in a certain way : resolve 2 : significance 3 a : what one intends to do or bring about. REMEMBER THIS DEFINITION.....

Once you get to INTENTION, you're halfway there.
